In this episode…

From the pandemic to supply chain issues to global tensions, ecommerce brands have faced severe challenges over the past few years. So what can you do to grow your brand during these difficult times?

According to Nathan Resnick, shipping delays, costs, and supply chain issues will likely decrease in the future. However, many successful brands have already learned where they need to focus their efforts: on the data and the big picture. This is true for both established ecommerce brands and companies in their early stages. To work through challenges, you need to become more data-driven, plan further ahead, and keep the big picture top of mind.

In this episode of the eCommerce Profits Podcast, Joshua Chin is joined by Nathan Resnick, President and Co-founder of Sourcify, to talk about his strategies to grow and scale a brand. Nathan shares stories from his entrepreneurial journey, his thoughts on the future of global manufacturing, and tips for building a brand or product around a community.

Nathan Resnick 2:02

Josh, thanks so much for having me. Pleasure to be on.

Joshua Chin 2:06

Let’s let’s start right there. Nathan. How What’s the story behind? Almost getting sued by Conor McGregor?

Nathan Resnick 2:15

Yeah, yeah, totally. I mean, that’s a fun one. You know, when Conor McGregor was going to fight Floyd Mayweather, when he transferred from UFC to be a boxer for a bit. He in one of his press conference, were this pinstripe suit suit that had the lettering? You know, Fu Fu going down the pinstripes and it went completely viral? Everyone was, you know, searching, how do I buy Conor McGregor suit? And so the source of it and we said, well, this could be a fun marketing stunt. Let’s launch fu suits.com. And, you know, create those students. So in under a week, we had, you know, sample did a photo shoot launched the site everything. And it went completely viral. I mean, we were on barstool, Hypebeast, like every major media outlet that, you know, follows this type of media we were on. And you know, we did I think in the first like, day, we did like almost $50,000 in sales organically, like didn’t spend $1 on ads, I think that we asked like 150 or 200k. I mean, this was in like 2018 or 17, maybe even they weren’t, you know, viral. And then, I guess, Conor McGregor team saw it because they use images of him on our site and whatnot. And, you know, images of him, obviously, are illegal to use without his consent. So they sent us a cease and desist and said, Hey, if you don’t take down the site, we’re gonna sue you. And so we took down the site, refunded to the orders, and that was that, but it was cool, because we use it as like a way to grow Sourcify Like at the bottom, and I think, maybe on the menu, as well said, like, made by Sourcify. And so, you know, Sourcify has been, you know, I’ve been on national news like CNN and CNBC. And, you know, we get a lot of leads through that, but right, mark, you know, stuff that we did years ago, still drove more traffic and leads than any of those, you know, TV or news appearances.

Joshua Chin 4:10

That’s crazy. What, what, uh, what gave you what gave you the confidence to say, hey, team, yep, go ahead. That’s a crazy idea.
