Some people love the safety net of a predictable but boring corporate job. Others crave the rollercoaster of the entrepreneurial journey — the highs, the lows, and everything in between. That’s how Andrew Erickson felt. While he had a comfortable job as an engineer, he wanted to be more than a tiny cog in a big machine. Andrew decided to move into the Amazon selling space and hasn’t looked back. Even though he couldn’t pay himself the first three years, he was eventually able to take a year to travel the world with his wife and now generates a seven-figure revenue.
On this episode of the eCommerce Profits Podcast, Joshua Chin joins Amazon seller Andrew Erickson to discuss how he became an Amazon millionaire — and how you can do it too. Andrew talks about the mistakes sellers make when bringing their brand onto Amazon, how to use programs like Helium 10 and Betsy to promote your product, and why Etsy is also an excellent option for sellers.

They also talk about building the lifestyle and the entrepreneur mindset. In fact, I’ve been a guest on the show. It’s been an incredible experience. Andrew, thank you so much for being on the show. Thanks, Josh. Thanks for having me. I’m very excited to be here. And let’s dive into it. So before let’s talk about your background. You were a software engineer for a long time.
Andrew Erickson 2:31
Yep, yep, yep, yep, I went to school for engineering and I got a big boy job at a at a fortune 100. company. And it was it was nice salary and nice, you know, the 401k. And that, which is the American pension plan, stuff like that. And, but it was pretty boring, like sitting in a cubicle all day and not feel like a small part of you know, small, tiny cog in that giant machine. And I’ve always wanted something entrepreneurial. And so that’s worked on a few things, but finally found something that kind of rang true with it, the Amazon private label model.
Joshua Chin 3:06
And you started a number of side businesses, while having a full time job and juggling a lot of different things. How do you first found success in on Amazon?
Andrew Erickson 3:21
I tried a bunch of different things. I mean, I kind of thought I would do something more engineering. So I like I I tried actually tried building a self driving go kart at one point, Quinn, which maybe I can’t look back on maybe that would have been even more fruitful path. Because like, it was really hot 10 years ago, and still hot now. But like that was kind of like the very beginning of it. But yeah, it’s really hard. It’s really hard to build what the self driving something rather. So like that didn’t really turn into anything. And then I built a couple of apps that were just kind of for fun to learn, but also monetize them. And they were like, I got, I don’t know, 100 100 200,000 downloads on them, but they’re free app. So there’s not like a lot of revenue there that you can quit your day job on. And then finally I kind of just stumbled into listen to some podcasts and podcasts like this one right and just heard about the Amazon private label opportunity and jumped into an end up working out really well for me.
